Irish Wolfhound - Extra Large - Young - Female - Dog - Cola
Description
Say hello to Cola, an Irish wolfhound/German shepherd mix. Cola has come back to our rescue twice, through no fault of her own, because she has not been able to find a home with the firm leadership she needs. She is about 16 months old now, over 100 lbs, and she has all the stubbornness and free-thinking of both breeds with which she is mixed. If given the chance, she will run the household. Two times we have adopted her out to people who said they could handle the "nothing in life is free" approach to living with Cola, and two times she has come back because they really didn't have what it takes to manage her. She is a very sweet and loving dog, but she must have an owner who is a strong leader and is willing to commit to manage her with firm discipline and obedience, able to earn her respect, and challenge her very bright mind. She is not for the faint of heart! She will try to do things her way, and she needs a leader who doesn't let that happen. I can't stress that enough. She is also physically very strong, so you too must be physically strong to handle her. She requires a prong collar when being walked to have good control over her...without it, she can pull my 6'2", 200 pound husband! Since her previous placement, she has developed issues with female dogs, but seems to do well with all male dogs she meets. She does submit to the alpha female in our house, but any female who is middle ranking and not submissive brings out the challenger in her. We require Cola's permanent home to have German shepherd, Rottweiler, or other large working breed experience, no children under the age of 12, a fenced yard, and not more than 6 hours home alone. She would do best with a young to middle-aged dog who enjoys wrestling and rough housing, and owners who understand how to supervise a multi-dog household. Cola loves and craves companionship, loves to ride in the car and take adventures, loves toys and occasional cuddling on the couch. She is a high energy dog who needs an active household. She is house trained and crate trained, spayed and current on all her vaccinations.
