Cocker Spaniel - Medium - Young - Male - Dog - Scooter in PA
Description
Hey y'all, Scooter here with an update on my life at the moment. After awhile in the kennel I finally found a foster home. It's pretty cool here. I live with a foster mom (FM), foster dad (FD) and 3 cocker foster siblings. We all get along great except sometimes I get too close to Ginger (she's the only girl) and she growls at me because I'm in her space. You know how girls can be. I really think I would be ok living with another dog because I don't like to be left alone. I am very needy and very clingy. FM & FD always tell me what a good boy I am. I am totally housebroken except for one accident the first night I was here. One day when it was raining, I held it for 15 hours because I didn't want to get wet. Finally FD had to force me out the door. What a relief that was! FM is a pushover. She tells me all the time what a handsome boy I am and she lets me cuddle with her on the couch. A funny thing, though, is that I won't jump up. When I want on the couch, I put my front paws up and then crawl up with my back end. I haven't even tried to jump up on the bed and I go very slowly up and down the steps. I don't know if I was injured in a previous life or what but I'm not in any pain. I think I'm pretty healthy. One thing you will have to watch is my tail. You see, my tail is kind of like a club when it goes which is pretty much all the time so if you are close to me, I'm liable to give you a good whack. When it's time to go to bed I go directly to my big pillow on the floor beside FM (she always reaches down and gives me a good night scratch) and I'm in for the night. I sleep very soundly. I probably could be convinced to sleep on your bed if you lift me up but if not, I'll be happy with a nice soft bed/pillow. I am working on learning some manners. I am very grabby when it comes to food. I am not food aggressive, I am food obsessive. I think everything is food and if you aren't careful, I will grab food right out of your hand and get your fingers along with the food. I'm not trying to bite, it's just that I was a stray and had to search for food so when I see food, I just grab. FM & FD are working with me and I'm getting much better. I know how to sit and wait for food and treats and I'm not quite as grabby as I was when I first came here. You just have to be patient with me and obedience training might not be a bad thing either. Even though I like my foster home a lot, I really want my own home and my own person to love. And finally there are a couple more things you should know about me - I love to go for walks and car rides, I love everyone from babies on up, and I love to be with my people so I would do best in a home where someone is home more often than not-maybe someone who works from home or a retired person who needs a companion. I promise to be a good boy and you won't regret adopting me.Despite his condition, Scooter is a happy dog who appears very well behaved. He flew from NC to Maryland, and was a perfect gentleman the entire transport. Scooter has a sweet personality; he is happy go lucky, friendly to all, and likes other dogs and people. We believe he will be a perfect family dog.Like many of us, Scooter is overweight, and will need a diet and exercise plan after his heartworm treatment. Once his heartwormtreatment is completed, he will be ready for his forever home. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation.
